A busy start to the first quarter for Demolition team

WV Demolition has kicked off the New Year with significant progress across multiple sites in the Midlands and South West, including major works in Bristol, Leicester and Gloucester.

Gloucester Regeneration Moves Forward

Following the demolition of the derelict Wessex House in 2019, WV Demolition has returned to the site behind Gloucester Railway Station to help pave the way for much-needed new housing.

The team has recently been de-risking land on Great Western Road, addressing both archaeological considerations and ground contamination. Beneath the surface lie the surviving below-ground remains of the Gloucester Union Workhouse Infirmary and adjacent Casual Wards, which date back to 1837.

The city’s association with workhouses stretches even further back, with records showing one in operation from as early as 1703.

The project represents a key step in efforts to regenerate the area while carefully managing its historic significance.

Industrial Demolition in Leicester

Meanwhile, demolition works are continuing at the former manufacturing yard of Parker Plant Limited in Leicester.

The site presents a number of technical challenges, including its boundary with a live railway line and close proximity to residential properties. WV Demolition’s experience and careful planning have been central to ensuring work progresses safely and efficiently.

Ongoing Works in Cinderford

Further activity is taking place at Enterprise House in Cinderford, where crews are carrying out a comprehensive demolition programme. Works include soft-stripping, removal of unsafe structures, identification and safe removal of asbestos, and the crushing of concrete materials on site.

Across all locations, WV Demolition continues to demonstrate its expertise in managing complex sites – balancing regeneration, safety, environmental responsibility and heritage considerations as it supports development across the region.
