A New Era with Komatsu

This month, we welcomed three brand-new Komatsu machines into our yard. Our Plant & Process Manager, Neil ‘Dixie’ Jones, couldn’t hide his delight. The fleet now includes two PC210s and a PC290, along with a new Lamorak van.

“They are just easy to use, easy to service, reliable,” Dixie said. The PC210 is particularly ideal for solo work due to its manageability and flexibility. Meanwhile, the PC290 brings extra power for heavier tasks, though it comes with a larger footprint and more involved transport logistics.

“It’s lovely to see. I wish they could stay like that, in that condition, after 10,000 hours on the clock – it would be great.”

The Versatility of Komatsu Machines

“They are just easy to use, easy to service, reliable. The 210 is a little more manageable in terms of loading and unloading on low-loaders. The 210 is just so versatile.”

Some of our older machines were starting to show their age, having clocked over 10,000-12,000 hours. That is typically the life expectancy of these machines before maintenance costs start to rise. However, Dixie is confident that these new additions will be reliable for a long time.

Komatsu’s thoughtful design includes conveniently placed service points for easy maintenance. Plus, we benefit from an affordable service plan. Once a die-hard Caterpillar devotee, Jones is now firmly Team Komatsu. “They are just a joy to work on,” he said.

Keeping the machines tidy and well-maintained is crucial. The site teams have all turned a corner and are exceptionally helpful. They really look after the machines. Thanks to their improved care, Dixie is hopeful that these machines will stay in top condition for years to come.
